“Done!” I have just arranged it into my collection after finishing it. How can I express such an valuable possession of mine to you? It can be carried with me anywhere I go. It does help me kill the time efficiently when I sit on the bus or wait for a hair cut in a salon. So far, you may have guessed what this subject is. Definitely, it is a book. So in this essay, I would like to describe a recent book which has appealed to me enormously, by its cover, scent, and convenient portability.
On that day, I was strolling along the bookshelves aisle, then I suddenly stopped at a corner on the third aisle. A captivating cover drew my immediate attention. Stunningly, a picturesque beach scene looks alluring with softened rays in the dim light of dawn. Instantly, an invisible power leaded me to walk on the squishy golden sand and listen to the gentle lapping of the waves as they roll onto the sand. Then, my hands touched the title “Message in the bottle” written by Nicholas Spark and felt its raised off texture. It glistens bright yellow and gave me a mellow feeling.
Thus, I could not help scanning through it. The peculiar scent is slightly pervasive. It is the engaging new-book aroma, not like the musty smell from old books I used to buy in an old discount house. This scent reminded me of fresh cut wood, ready for processing at the lumber yard I used to visit in the past. Since I noticed no one paying attention to me, I held my nose close to the pages and inhaled. This is also the reason I prefer reading paper books than electronic books because they give me a total sensory experience.
As I observed it more thoroughly, I perceived a very light, almost fragile feel because of the high quality material, yet as I turned over each page, recognized they were joined tightly together, therefore it would last a long time. As a result, I can carry it along with me easily. Also, it is a paperback version so I can enjoy it comfortably in bed without worrying about its hardback may hurt my nose when I unexpectedly fall asleep.
In summary, those three characteristics : cover, scent, and convenient portability play important roles whether I decide to buy a book or not. For sure, its content and author are the more important factors which is why I used to read it before on the Internet or through advertisements, so..... I would not choose books just because of their covers. Despite the fact that I have read it before, I still like to possess it for my book collection so I can read it over and over or leave it for my next generation.
