Answers

1. Is it expensive to study in the USA?

Compared to many other countries, studying in the USA can be expense, but part of this and reason why more foreign students study in the USA more than any other country, has to do with the quality and global recognition of the Higher Education system here. Many people look at their education as the #1 investment they can make, and having a graduate diploma from a recognized and quality university can lead to great career opportunities.

2. Is the cost the same at all Universities and in all regions of the USA?

No, there are a lot of variable when considering the cost, including what part of the country the school is located in (this affects your cost of living outside of school fees), the perceived quality of the school, whether or not you would be eligible for grants, scholarships etc.
As an example, a student living off-campus in Los Angeles, California (University of Southern California) is going to pay anywhere from 1500-2000$ for a single one bedroom apartment, compared to a student going to school in Lansing, Michigan (Michigan State University) who is going to pay 750-1500$ for the same apartment.
Other expenses such as entertainment and social activities will also usually be less expensive outside of the major cities, such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City, Washington DC etc.

3. My culture and the country I live in has very conservative ideas about people in society. Is this going to create problems for me in adjusting to the culture in the USA?

If there is one thing that is true about the USA, it is a melting pot of cultures, races and ethnicities, religions etc. While there may be some challenges for a few people, most people have welcomed and embraced this opportunity to learn about new cultures and ideas. Most people in general in the USA are open minded and welcoming of foreigners. Of course, like anywhere, there are some places in this country that are more diversified than others, but our Cultural Transition Aide as well as your University International Students Office will assist you in this transition.

4. Though I can speak English, I am not always comfortable conversing with people that are native speakers. Is this going to be a problem?

As part of the criteria for being accepted at a university/college in the USA, you will need to meet the English Language proficiency requirements, usually through attaining a satisfactory score in TOEFL or IELTS, or similar language proficiency exam. In some cases, the schools will provide a pre-University English language school, based on your current level, and contingent on passing this school, allow you to proceed into your University studies. Of course, this is will cost any money, but is an option for those that can afford it. Many languages are spoken in the USA, and even for people that are not native speakers, it is not difficult to find someone that can help you. Most government offices offer legal guidance, official documentation (such as Driver’s License exam) in multiple languages.

5. It is hard to get around if I do not own a car?

Public transportation is very reliable and available in most cities. Subways, trains, buses, taxis and many other forms of public transportation are affordable and available in most cases.

6. How do I begin taking up courses in the facility?

The first step is to fill out the student profile form. You can do it through our web or in person in the facility. Then, all you need to do is to wait to be called by our administrator to coordinate the classes with you.

7. Should I pay the first fee in the moment I fill out the student profile form?

When you fill out the students profile via internet or in the facility, you are given the option to pay for the course fee you are applying for. It is not mandatory to pay right away; however, when accommodating students slots, we give priority to those who have paid it already. Once you receive the call of our administrator, you will need to coordinate the classes with him, if you have not paid the first fee yet, you'd need to do it in order to assist the classes. The administrator will guide you in this process.

12. Are the materials unique or are the same than the ones my school/university uses?

It depends on the type of course you are hiring. For the general English course, we use an standardized curriculum and materials. But if you are hiring a support service, we count with the materials most Tunisian Schools and universities use. In this way, we can teach you the same things your teacher in your school/university is trying to teach you and pass your school/university exams.

13. Will I be given any certificate to prove my English level?

Yes. After passing each level (beginner, intermediate and advanced) you will be given a certificate PER LEVEL. Please be aware that our certificates are not valid to present at any university or school in the country or any other country. For the moment, our certificates are only valid within the Dreams 'N Motion organization.
