- One point of clarification. There was some disagreement on the relationship of two words: Nationalism and Patriotism. For some members on Team A, they felt that you can love your country, and be proud of your country, and not look down on other countries as inferior.
- Nationalism is a belief, creed or political ideology that involves an individual identifying with, or becoming attached to, one's nation. Nationalism involves national identity, by contrast with the related construct of patriotism, which involves the social conditioning and personal behaviors that support a state's decisions and actions
Team A Summary:
- Love your country, language, cultures etc. but respect other countries. Many people from Brazil feel they are inferior.
- It’s important to respect your countrymen, to have pride in your country, to want more for your people an nation
- The people of a country represent the nation
- In some cases, violence has occurred due to the desire of a people to have their independence
- A sense of National Pride contributes to the economic and moral standard of people
- In some countries, where the culture is very diversified, the national pride is based on ideals and principles such as freedom of speech, opportunities to make your life whatever you want it to be and equal rights for all people
- Nationalism fosters unity and reduces corruption
- Nationalism gives a sense of independence
