French Toast, American Style

February 4, 2015 Thanh Nguyen Tu

I am going to introduce you to a step by step approach for making French Toast.  This is one of my favorite recipes, because it is fast and easy.  This is a great alternative to cereal, pancakes, scrambled or fried eggs for a traditional American breakfast.

Step 1.  Ingredients

Your major ingredients for making French toast are very simple, eggs and bread.  If you want, you can also add milk during step 3, or spices like cinnamon.  And of course, after you cook it, you will want to put some syrup and butter on it.

Step 2. Preparations

Your cooking utensils are also very basic, a flat skillet or frying pan, and a bowl large enough to mix the eggs, and any other ingredients you want.  I usually coat the surface of the skillet with something like PAM, or a similar product.

Step 3.  The Messy Part

I say this because this is the part where I always make a mess, with eggs everywhere.  Crack as many eggs as necessary, to be able to fully coat the bread slices.  Mix them really good, and add in any additional ingredients you want.

Step 4.  Giving your Bread an Egg Bath

This is also a messy part, but its really important to soak your bread in the egg, and make sure all parts of the bread have a good egg coat.

Step 5.  The Cooking Part

This is pretty simple, but as always, when cooking, be careful so you don’t get burned or overcook your food.  I usually use the stove at about medium flame.  It not necessary to turn the French toast over many times, maybe two or three times is enough.  You will know its ready when you have a light brown texture to the outside.

Step 6.  The Best Part, Eating It

So now I have walked you through a very simple approach to making a quick, easy and healthy breakfast.  Of course, always remember to supplement this with fruit or other healthy and natural foods.  P.S If I call it “American French Toast” does that sound confusing :)
