Imagine that you are in your office, then, suddenly you felt Mother Nature summon you , so, you rush to the nearest restroom but when you opened the door of the cubicle you saw something so revolting and disastrous on the toilet (I cut the haunting and dire details) that you decided to ignore the urgent call of nature. Most of us have experienced the same appalling surprise especially in public restrooms so people have written many reminders and codes of conduct in using public rest rooms ( I.e. Do not flush your tissue or pad, do not step on the rim of the bowl etc.) but these are still being disregarded due to people’s lack of discipline. A restroom can either be a haven or a hell depending on how we use it. In this article I have listed down the three important things to remember when you have to use a public restroom.
First is hygiene; restrooms are our sanctuary during “trying times” because this is where we relieve ourselves of our bodily toxins but it can also be our bedlam if not properly cleansed because this is where germs thrive. Make sure that the toilet and your hands are clean after doing your thing to prevent the spread of diseases.
Next is dignity. Your values and professionalism sets you apart from animals and other people and these can be directly shown in your toilet etiquette. Just imagine how disappointing it would be if you’re a well renowned teacher in your school but you have very gross toilet etiquette. Be a good role model for everyone and practice public restroom ethics because these would reveal something about your upbringing and reputation.
Finally is respect, this is simple, do not do unto others what you don’t want others do unto you. So if you want to use a clean toilet make sure that you clean your own mess regardless of your position in the company or status. There is a saying that “Everyone is equal in the eye of a public restroom.” Always remember that you are not the only person who is going to use the toilet, so respect other people’s right to a sanitized restroom.
Always bear in mind these three easy to remember words whenever you have to go to a public restroom, these would greatly help you and other people in having a peaceful and comfortable usage of the toilet. Remember that whenever you are on the “edge of catastrophe” there is no better place than a pleasant smelling and well sanitized restroom. Besides how hard can it be to flush the toilet? (oops, I have to end it here, gotta rush to the toilet!)
