Small Changes Make for Big Results!
~ by Jana Hollingsworth ~ |
A
New Year is here again and most of us are anxious to find ways to make
sure that 2009 is better than 2008, but many people, including myself,
are reluctant to make New Year's "resolutions." Many of us have
had enough experience to know that in previous years most of these good
intentions fly right out the window just a few short weeks after we
start doing them.
Today many of us seem to be "all or nothing"
kind of people. Americans tend to be very "results" oriented, and
when that attitude is extreme the results can be disastrous. We
have seen ample evidence of this in the last few years, where companies
and individuals have been so focused on building bigger and bigger
houses, businesses, cars, portfolios, etc., then suddenly when the
momentum slows, we are made painfully aware that in our rush for
results, we neglected to do the important work of creating a truly
strong base upon which to build!
I think the problem is that we
almost always focus on the symptoms and don't pay enough attention to
the underlying cause of our problem. We often try to tackle very
BIG and obvious challenges, like being overweight and we look for BIG
results, rather than focusing on the underlying issues and energy that
brought us to this place.
We have a better chance of
creating long lasting and meaningful results by setting out on a path
of making a smaller change - a small shift in our core energy which
will have a much greater impact than a large r but temporary change in
our eating habits, or spending habits, etc. By shifting our core
energy we actually become a new person and this will positively affect
how we interact with the universe, and how the universe supports us.
This
year, let's try something different for our New Year's resolution. What
if you committed to the kind of change that demands a shift of thinking
perhaps even more than a change in your lifestyle for the next 30 days?
This should be a small change that will shift your energy so that with
constant, yet patient effort you will create a fertile ground for the
seeds a new way of being - and they symptoms that you've been concerned
about will take care of themselves because you are the "new you."
Here
are some creative things you could try. Remember you're trying to
INSPIRE a small change in energy, so use these as examples, but think
about what will most inspire you!:
-
"Attitude of Gratitude" - Fitness: Commit to spending a minute every
day thinking about and listing 3 or 4 things that are going right with
your body. We find it easy to go on and on about our aches and
pains, but let's create a moment each day where you really assess
what's going right with your health. You might tend to complain
about getting gray hair, but how often have you simply thought - God,
I'm glad I HAVE HAIR! If you start to really appreciate your
health, you will take it for granted less and you might find yourself
inspired to take better care of it. (...& maybe even
hit the gym! Ha!)
- "The more you give the more you get" -
Finance: Commit to putting all your spare change into a "community jar"
in your house. At the end of the month, count the money and then donate
it to your favorite charity - or favorite niece - or...? This
should help you create a feeling of abundance - which will ... guess
what?... will attract more abundance!
- "Honoring your Partner"
- Relationships: Commit to starting a new ritual with the most
important person in your life. For instance, every Wednesday night
could be "take out and movie" night where you order in dinner, rent a
movie and just enjoy each other's company. The important thing
here is that you have to PLAN each date ahead of time. The idea
is to intentionally set aside "special" time with this person - but it
doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. This will help both
of you appreciate and nurture the relationship and help you pay better
attention to the ebb and flow of the other person's feelings.
-
"Remember your Humanity" - Being Human: Commit to talking to a stranger
each day (you can compliment the woman's shoes who gets in the elevator
with you, start a conversation with the person behind you in the
grocery line.) If you don't feel comfortable doing that, just make a
point to SMILE when you pass by the mailman, or someone in the
hall. This is an amazing way of improving your own energy - and
so simple to do! This will help you feel better about yourself
and open doors in many aspects of your life.
I
think you get the drift! Little changes can go a long way if they are
the right kind of change. Try it out and see what you think.
Tackling
a problem head-on can be effective, but often the "problem" is simply a
symptom of something that is going on with your personal energy.
If we can find a way to address that energy directly, the symptoms take
care of themselves. This kind of work tends to be more subtle but
it can also be easier to do on a daily basis.
This year we're
looking for Real Change! Have fun with it. Come up with your own
ideas and remember, small changes can bring you BIG RESULTS!

Gem Girl

Dear Gem Girl,
We're
quickly approaching the New Year, and I've already started to reflect
on this past year. Nothing bad happened, but also nothing great
happened. Everything was pretty stagnant for me, which is why I'm
writing to ask you what would help me bring some changes in my
life. I think I need a change of energy, drive, just
CHANGE. Thank you! Love your column every month! Changeling Los Angeles, CA
_____
Dear Changeling,
New
President, new economic changes and now a New Year! Everything
around you is going through some changes, yet you feel there was
nothing new in your life this past year. It sounds like to me
that you need a shift in energy flow. Malachite is a very strong
energy conductor that may help bring more life back into your
life. It helps release the obstacles that are blocking your
spiritual growth by letting go of drawn-out feelings, ending unhealthy
relationships and old, useless behavioral patterns, and encouraging you
to take charge of your decisions, thoughts and emotions.
Malachite is also a powerful cleansing stone by absorbing negative
energies from the environment and within your body so YOU don't have to
suffer from them (living in smoggy LA, this will be particularly
helpful to you!). Now go get some energy back into your life and
take charge of it by living not just an eventful, healthy YEAR, but
living MANY eventful, healthy yearS to come! Happy Holidays and
Happy New Year! Thank you to all of you for being such loyal
readers of the best newsletter around (no bias).

Love, Misa

ญญญญญญญEight Tips for Embracing the Darkest Part of the Year
By Amanda Moxley
I woke up in the dark with a lightness in my heart, flipped on the
Christmas tree lights and some rockin music and began my morning
dancing in the dark! I love it. I love life.
Have you let the darkness of the late fall days bring you down?
If you answered yes than here are some great tips for embracing the darkest part of the year:
1.
Get in rhythm with nature and tuck yourself into bed by 7 p.m. at least
one night a week. Stay in bed until the sun shines again the next day.
2. Take a hot bath with Epsom salt and lavender essential oil.
3. Go sledding and pretend you are a kid again! Go fast!
4. Cozy up near a warm fire with a cup of peppermint or ginger tea with your sweety.
5. Go to the library and get a ton of good books that you would never have a chance to read during the hectic summer months.
6.
Chop up onions, carrots, celery, garlic, sweet potatoes and lentils in
a crock pot before you leave your house in the morning so you can come
home to a healthy and nutritious meal.
7. Live in gratitude for the beauty of your life.
8. Share

tips are inspired by my work as a Holistic Health Counselor. I hope

Hi from Jana |
|
|
|
Hi Everyone,
Happy New Year!!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! Mark
& I just got back from spending a couple of days in La Jolla, CA.
We had a great time just relaxing and enjoying each other's company! As
usual, I ate too many sweets over the holidays and my abs have
officially gone into winter hibernation. i am now on a quest to try and
find them before February! If anyone sees them, please let me know. When
making your resolutions for the new year, I hope you follow my advice
in this months' article. Start off by making some small changes at the
beginning of the year. Make ones that you can really stick with and
that will bring you long term results. This year, I have alot on
my plate. I decided to write my first book entitled "Strength Training
for the Psychic Soul." The book will be about developing your psychic
abiliites using some of the methods involved in strengthening your
physical body. I'm really excited about it! I am taking my own advice
though and breaking it down into "baby steps" so that I can achieve a
certain goal each month. If I look at the "big picture" and all the
work involved, it would seem to overwhelming to me! Please check out my new YouTube video! You can also find it on the home page of my website. It's just a short introduction, but let me know what you think. I'm
also excited about my new 5 minute radio spot that I'll have each week
on NY Talk Radio. It will be called "Jana's Psychic Workout." Each
week, starting at the end of January, I'll be giving tips on various
metaphysical topics. I'll be talking about things like "how dreams can
help us in our daily lives," "psychic development exercises," "quick
ways to do meditation, etc. I'm really looking forward to working with
Jay Grace who is the host of the show. Last but not least, I was happy to have my pictures accepted as a "fitness model" on the web-site Shape Fit.com. If
you'd like to view my pictures and profile, log onto www.shapefit.com,
click on the "fitness model" icon towards the bottom of the page.
Scroll down through the pictures. I'm probably the 7th or 8th one down
on the page. Little do they know my abs aren't looking like that at the
moment...... I hope all of you will take a few minutes to decide
what changes you'd like to incorporate in your life this coming year.
Make them tangible and you will set your self up for success!! I
hope you enjoy this month's issue. Feel free to drop me an e-mail to
let me know what subjects you'd like to learn more about! I look
forward to hearing from you!
Jana
